Crypto cards let people spend straight from a wallet. This week showed what happens when the company in the middle is breached. Gnosis Pay said on Friday that an attacker reached its consumer card system and exposed names, shipping addresses and account references, though no funds moved. That is the cryptocurrency news card holders woke up to. Therefore, it raises a plain question about who should hold the keys.
That gap is where Pepeto sits. Its meme coin presale has drawn more than $11.3 million. At the same time, the team is building an exchange where every trade is signed in the user’s own wallet.
Cryptocurrency News: Gnosis Pay Breach Exposed Card Data but Spared Funds
Gnosis Pay told users on November 6 that it found the breach on November 3. Names as printed on cards, shipping addresses and an account reference were exposed. In addition, some users were told their card numbers and linked wallet addresses were too. Funds were not touched. Moreover, the white label platform the firm runs for enterprise clients was not affected.
The response was quick. The company says it contained the breach within two hours. It replaced the credentials involved and made 3D Secure checks mandatory on every card.
However, leaked data cannot be pulled back. A shipping address tied to a wallet address tells a stranger where a crypto holder lives. This is the firm’s second incident this year after a June problem put some funds at risk. As a result, the consumer system closes on December 20 under a plan made before the breach.
This leaves every holder reading the cryptocurrency news with one practical point. When a firm sits between holders and their coins, its records become the target, so the safer design keeps the keys with the holder.
Pepeto Raises $11.3 million for a Swap That Never Holds Coins
Card spending keeps growing, and so does the number of firms storing data about the people who spend. Pepeto pairs a meme coin with an exchange designed never to take custody.
On PepetoSwap, each trade is signed in the trader’s own wallet, with no company account between the trader and the coins. It charges a 0.00% swap fee, leaving only network gas to pay. Market, limit and DCA orders are also planned. In addition, a private relay is on by default to keep MEV bots away from each order.
A trader putting $9,400 into a swap every Friday moves $488,800 a year. That costs $1,466.40 in fees on Uniswap and $1,222 on PancakeSwap. By contrast, it costs $0 on PepetoSwap.
At the current stage a token costs $0.0000001. A stage finishes at its deadline or its sales goal, whichever comes first, before the following stage costs more. The whole raise is small next to the roughly $15 billion it takes to move BTC by 1%.
Therefore, fresh buying moves Pepeto’s value far more. The team cleared SolidProof’s audit and KYC. A former Binance expert is among the developers, and big investors and community members test the tools in private.
Conclusion
The breach stayed a story about one company, with BTC near $75,700 on Friday. Still, it gives every card user a reason to keep coins in a wallet they control. Moreover, it gives them a reason to share less data with firms in the middle.
The largest gains in this market have often gone to buyers who came in at a sale price. Gnosis sold GNO for about $30 on April 24, 2017, raising $12.5 million in minutes. The token traded above $580 in November 2021. Readers of this cryptocurrency news can find Pepeto at that same sale stage today.
The wallets buying at stage prices today hold the lowest entry before the listing. GNO’s sale buyers learned that the order they placed in 2017 decided what they held in 2021, and Pepeto’s buyers face that same choice in this stage.
