The Clarity Act could become the most important U.S. crypto law since Bitcoin was created. It would establish a federal market structure for an industry currently worth approximately $2.32 trillion.
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY) does not contain a “dead by August 10” provision. Were it to fail passage before that date, no Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoin, or exchange would suddenly become illegal.
The CLARITY Act is the most important U.S. crypto market-structure proposal now moving through Congress, but it is not law yet. It has passed the House and advanced through the Senate Banking Committee. This week the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) finalized a rule change for margin for uncleared swaps, which expands the range of money market funds (MMFs) that can be used as initial margin. MMFs were already eligible as collateral, provided they only invested in cash and government securities. However, the CFTC excluded MMFs that used…
Senate Crypto Bill Negotiations Reach Critical Stage: Will Bitcoin Be the Biggest Winner?
The US crypto regulatory environment is at a critical juncture. Two Senate committees have approved market-structure frameworks, but a full Senate vote on the crypto bill is yet to happen. With the state work period set to begin on August 10, negotiations could have far-reaching implications for trading, custody, token issuance, and institutional demand for…
Canada continues to develop its digital asset regulatory framework with updates to the CSA guidance, crypto trading platform scrutiny, and a new federal framework for fiat-backed stablecoins.
