ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Lake Saint Louis Police Department is reminding the public of <a href="https://cryptoz7.com/5-best-crypto-exchanges-for-ai-trading-for-beginners/” title=”5 Best Crypto Exchanges for AI Trading for Beginners “>cryptocurrency scams after stopping one in progress last week.
The department says that on Wednesday, July 15, officers responded to a local business after it was reported that an elderly customer was trying to deposit a large sum of money into a virtual cryptocurrency kiosk.
Police say officers recognized the signs of a cryptocurrency scam and intervened before the elderly person lost more money.
An investigation revealed that the person had been tricked by two people, one impersonating a tech employee and the other a federal employee.
The person was told to withdraw $46,800 in cash from their bank and deposit it into two different cryptocurrency kiosks.
The department said the funds were recovered with the help of St. Charles County prosecuting attorney’s office.
Lake Saint Louis Police Department reminds residents to be vigilant when receiving solicitations to send cryptocurrency.
“We are committed to protecting victims who are being financially exploited through these increasingly common, and often sophisticated scams,” said Chief Christopher DiGiuseppi. “The quick actions from local business employees, responding officers, investigators, prosecutors, and the court system helped prevent additional losses and recover money for this victim.”
