Circle launches native USDC and CCTP on OKX X Layer

Circle has expanded its stablecoin infrastructure to OKX’s X Layer, bringing native USDC and the Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to the Ethereum-compatible layer-2 network.

The integration gives developers and businesses direct access to Circle-issued USDC on X Layer. It also allows users to move USDC between supported blockchain networks through CCTP without relying on traditional wrapped versions of the stablecoin.

The move could strengthen USDC’s role across DeFi, payments, trading, real-world assets, and AI applications.

Native USDC Arrives on X Layer

Circle announced that native USDC is now available on X Layer, an Ethereum-compatible Layer-2 network developed by OKX.

Unlike bridged versions of USDC, native USDC is issued directly by Circle. This gives applications on X Layer access to the original version of the stablecoin rather than a representation created through a third-party bridge.

Native USDC can be used across several applications, including:

    • Decentralized finance (DeFi)
    • Crypto trading
    • Digital payments
    • Real-world asset tokenization
    • Blockchain-based financial services
    • AI-powered applications

Qualified businesses can also use Circle Mint to issue and redeem USDC on X Layer.

X Layer is designed to support Ethereum-based applications while offering lower transaction costs and faster settlement. The network is targeting several growing blockchain use cases, including DeFi, payments, tokenization, and artificial intelligence.

    CCTP Brings Cross-Chain USDC Transfers

Circle is also bringing its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to X Layer.

CCTP allows users to transfer USDC between supported blockchains without depending on traditional wrapped tokens. This can help developers build applications that access USDC liquidity across multiple blockchain networks.

Following the X Layer integration, CCTP is available across 26 blockchains, while native USDC is supported on 36 networks.

X Layer will continue to support bridged USDC from Ethereum. However, the ecosystem is encouraging applications and users to gradually adopt native USDC.

USDC Expands Into Payments and AI

The X Layer integration could also expand the use of USDC beyond traditional crypto trading and DeFi.

Payment providers, fintech companies, decentralized applications, and AI agents can use USDC for automated payments and settlement.

The integration also connects with X Layer’s x402 ecosystem, which is designed to support automated payments between AI agents and online services.

For example, developers could use USDC to facilitate payments for APIs, digital services, and other automated transactions without relying on traditional payment systems.

This could become increasingly important as AI agents begin interacting with digital services and making automated payments on behalf of users.

    Businesses Can Access Circle Mint

Qualified businesses can also access Circle Mint through X Layer.

Circle Mint provides businesses with infrastructure for issuing and redeeming USDC. This gives institutional users a more direct way to integrate the stablecoin into payment and settlement systems.

For companies building on X Layer, native USDC could therefore provide a simpler option for handling dollar-denominated transactions within the network.

Circle Continues to Expand Its Blockchain Infrastructure

The X Layer launch is part of Circle’s broader effort to expand its blockchain infrastructure.

The company has also been building support around its Arc blockchain, with major financial and technology companies joining as founding validators.

These include BlackRock, DTCC, Galaxy, Mastercard, Visa, and Standard Chartered, among others.

The expansion shows Circle’s focus on making USDC available across more blockchain networks while building infrastructure for payments, financial applications, and institutional use.

What the X Layer Integration Means for USDC

Bringing native USDC and CCTP to X Layer gives developers another way to access Circle’s dollar-backed stablecoin infrastructure.

The integration could improve USDC liquidity on X Layer while supporting applications across DeFi, payments, trading, tokenization, and AI.

For users, the biggest benefit is broader access to native USDC and easier movement of the stablecoin across supported networks.

As stablecoins become more important in digital payments and financial applications, integrations such as X Layer could help expand USDC’s role across the broader blockchain ecosystem.
