Ala. (WAFF) – Homeowners who are fighting against a proposed <a href="https://cryptoz7.com/where-could-bitcoin-and-xrp-end-the-year/” title=”Where Could Bitcoin and XRP End the Year?”>Bitcoin mining center have revealed who is behind it all
Homeowners in Somerville have spent months attempting to identify the companies behind a planned 50-megawatt Bitcoin mining facility on Union Road. Their research has led them to a network of corporate entities connected to a Texas man.
“We’ve all been digging into different areas and different things about who this company was, what they’re trying to do, if they’ve done this other places,” said Jason Friend, a resident involved in the effort to research the companies.
According to Morgan County probate records, Sovereign Global Solutions Inc., based in Texas, purchased the land in Aug. 2025. In May of this year, ownership was transferred to a newly created Alabama company, Sovereign Gazelle LLC.
State records show Kevin Mohan, of Texas, is responsible for both companies.
An agent listed for Sovereign Gazelle is Kartheek Sola — the same individual homeowners say visited them two months ago representing VoltCore, which is the company residents initially believed was leading the project.
We at WAFF 48, as well as homeowners, attempted to contact VoltCore, but phone and email contacts listed online were found to be invalid. Attempts to reach Mohan were also unsuccessful.
“They can’t even be honest in their name, so how are we supposed to even get transparency as to what’s happening here if they aren’t transparent with who they are,” said Carlee Carlton, a concerned resident.
The project has continued to advance with utility services since VoltCore representatives visited residents in June to inform them of the plans.
Morgan County Commission Chairman Ray Long says the county has no legal authority to stop this process. The commission imposed a moratorium in late June, but he says those are just words.
Homeowners say they have not heard from the company since VoltCore’s visit.
“The fact that they’re not telling us what they’re doing, what their plan is, how they’re going to protect it, how they’re going to keep the noise barrier in, is kind of frustrating.” Friend said.
Business entity records show Mohan created another Alabama-based company, Project Avalanche LLC, on Aug. 4. Sola is also listed in connection with that entity.
Friend says they are concerned the new company signals plans to expand Bitcoin mining operations across the state.
“We haven’t lost hope, and we won’t lose hope until this thing is actually built,” he said. “We’re going to continue to fight until either this is built or they sell this property to somebody else that’s going to use this as a farm, as it’s intended to be.”
The homeowners are raising money to do an environmental study through GiveSendGo and they’ve started a website called Protect Alabama Communities.
