Thai Regulator Files Criminal Complaint Against Bitget Operator for Unlicensed Crypto Trading

On Thursday, November 5, 2026, Bytes Europe reported that Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the operator of cryptocurrency exchange Bitget, and plans to block access to the platform from December 5. The regulator alleges the firm offered digital asset trading in Thailand without the required license.

The SEC confirmed the action in an announcement on November 5, saying BG Limited provided exchange services without the authorization required under the country’s digital asset laws. The matter has been referred to the Economic Crime Suppression Division for investigation, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has been asked to restrict access to Bitget’s website, related domains and mobile app.

According to the regulator, Bitget facilitated trading for Thai customers between 2022 and 2025 and collected trading fees. Investigators cited a Thai-language website that displayed prices in baht, along with promotion on social media, including an X account called “Bitget Thailand,” a Telegram group named “BGB Thai Holder” and a TikTok account, “bitgetthailand.”

The complaint also names Kritsana Kritsananuwat, whom

The complaint also names Kritsana Kritsananuwat, whom the SEC accuses of promoting Bitget’s services through a Facebook page and a YouTube channel, both called “Srisiam.” Authorities allege those promotions supported the platform’s unlicensed operations.

The SEC said the activities fall within the definition of operating a digital asset exchange under the 2018 Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses, and that BG Limited breached Section 26 of that decree. The access restriction is being sought under a 2025 royal decree on preventing technology-related crime, which empowers the ministry to block unlicensed trading platforms.

Customers holding cryptocurrency on Bitget have been advised to review their accounts and take appropriate steps before the deadline. The announcement does not mention automatic liquidation or require customers to sell their holdings.

Thailand previously blocked five unlicensed exchanges, including Bybit,

Thailand previously blocked five unlicensed exchanges, including Bybit, OKX and CoinEx, under the same framework in June 2025. The SEC urged investors to verify provider licensing through its website or its SEC Check First application.

The filing does not establish criminal liability. The Economic Crime Suppression Division will investigate before prosecutors decide whether to press charges, and any case would then proceed through the courts.

Bitget had announced in October plans to acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand), operator of the licensed Z.com EX platform. That deal requires regulatory approval and had not been completed. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen has said the acquisition would allow the company to establish local operations, but no launch date has been announced.

Bitget had not responded to a request for comment by publication. Separately, the company restricted customers in Russia and Belarus after updating its prohibited-jurisdiction list in October.
